Report on Our Petition Campaign

As the leading organizational opponent of Puerto Rico Statehood, we gathered 22,222 petitions and survey responses  from the American people opposing statehood for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.  With these outstanding results, we remain committed to be the voice of the American people opposing Puerto Rico statehood.

We are launching a new campaign to increase our voice in the halls of Congress.

We will feature that program here as updates are posted on our blog site.

Stop Puerto Rico Statehood

Stop Puerto Rico Statehood is fully  dedicated to the hope of preserving the current relationship of the US and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

We believe that this hope is in the very best interests of the people of the US and Puerto Rico.  Puerto Rico should remain in the current status quo.

The Puerto Rican people are highly independent and have immense pride in their district and rich Latin culture and Spanish language.  They should not  be deprived of that culture.  Statehood would act to deprive them of this culture.  A state that does not embrace the English language as the official, primary language is unacceptable to the American people.

Many of those who advocate statehood for Puerto Rico, do so only because they want to use it as a hammer and tong to shift the political balance of power in the U.S. political system.  Such shifts should take place through the political process of the elections rather than adding a state.

Currently there is very much poverty in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.  If it becomes a state, they will no longer be exempt from Federal income tax and even more people will be forced on to the public dole because of the effects of increased taxation on a struggling economy.  It would lead to increased burden on the US Taxpayers to provide additional welfare payments to Puerto Ricans.

Stop Puerto Rico Statehood is a project of the US Public Policy Council, a private, non profit organization fighting for Americas national security interests.
